Boca da Valeria, Brazil

You are not likely to find this hamlet of about 75 people on any map.  However, it was important to visit such a place to see how some of the people in the Amazon live.  Today however, was not a routine day for the inhabitants.  It was an opportunity to make some money.  Boat rides to a nearby community were on offer for US $5. Children, some dressed up in feathers, and most carrying some kind of animal or bird, offered themselves for a photo for $1.  Of course, there were the usual handicrafts and some enterprising souls opened up a soft drink and beer stand.  Some people on the ship had brought school supplies and used clothing for the children, which were given to the teacher.  All in all it was a festive atmosphere and I think everybody enjoyed the experience.  I leave you with some of the pictures from my boat ride, the children and the village.  Tomorrow and Monday we are in Manaus.

    Lovely pix with children!

BTW, I’ll be wanting your advice – when you’re back – on WordPress, as I’m being “pressed” to create a travel blog too, with my write-ups…
