Honolulu, Hawaii, USA

I have been to Honolulu several times. Some previous visits will be found in my blog at https://lesliesh.wordpress.com/2010/11/26/honolulu-hawaii/ https://lesliesh.wordpress.com/2012/03/11/honolulu-oahu/   and  https://lesliesh.wordpress.com/2013/09/29/hawaiian-islands-usa/  Today I visited the Bishop Museum  Hawaii’s largest museum dedicated to studying and preserving the history of the islands and the Pacific with many displays of local culture. The Victorian building originally housed family heirlooms from Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop, descendent of King Kamehameha I. Now it displays artefacts, documents and photos about Hawaii and other Polynesian cultures. There are also natural history exhibits and a planetarium showing how voyagers navigated the Pacific using the stars. I include photos of some of Princess Bernice’s royal clothing and Kahili which are symbols of Hawaiian chiefs. I found the museum to be well worth visiting. In addition to the museum, Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop left her considerable estate for the establishment of schools for Hawaiian children. The endowment now stands over 1 Billion dollars and is exceeded only by those for major American Universities including Harvard, Yale, Princeton and MIT.
